New technology helps businesses to Shield themselves from risk

Manchester-based health and safety and food safety compliance and software developer, Shieldyourself, has launched a new, in-house developed, online resource to help multi-location organisations manage health and safety, food safety and compliance issues.

The new online ‘Compliance Centre’ provides companies with a central system that can be accessed locally at brand or division level in order to log information, but is managed by the head office, helping to achieve legal compliance by demonstrating safety performance and providing instant access to historical activity.

“Instead of having endless files and folders taking up space in offices across your locations, you now have one centralised database. It’s easier to see how your company is doing as a whole with regard to compliance – there is consistency in action, as you can schedule one task which will then be carried out across multiple sites, and the progress recorded.

“The system automatically prioritises tasks by deadline and sends alerts reminding you to take action, or letting you know when something has been dealt with. It generates reports, analysis and results and generally takes the hard work out of being health and safety compliant.”

The Compliance Centre was developed in response to customer feedback and requests from organisations that had more than one site in the UK and abroad. It was built by Shieldyourself’s in-house software development team and has gained over 3,000 users in under three months.

“We know that there is a certain perception around ‘health and safety’ culture but we believe our system is the antidote to the red tape that surrounds compliancy by providing an entire organisation with clear parameters on what it needs to achieve in order to fulfil legal requirements. It’s the first system of its kind and we are very proud to be leading the way in this area.” 

Shieldyourself was established in 2003 by ex-Environmental Health Officer Mark Flanagan and provides health and safety and food safety compliance support to global clients and many of the leading UK multiple location organisations.  The company has recently opened a new London office, in addition to its head office at Manchester Science Park, and currently employs 15 people.
